MPL Signs Agreement to Commence Phase 1 of Thilafushi Port Development Project
Local Harbour Relief Project moves forward to ease port congestion
Malé, 5 February 2026 - Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially signed an agreement with China Harbour Engineering Company to commence Phase 1 of the Thilafushi Port Development Project – Local Harbour Relief Project.
Under the agreement, China Harbour Engineering Company will deliver the project within a five month timeframe, marking an important step towards addressing long standing congestion at key port facilities and strengthening national port capacity.
The Local Harbour Relief Project is designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance cargo handling capability, and support the growing demands of trade and logistics in the Maldives.
MPL continues to work closely with national and international partners to deliver strategic port development initiatives that contribute to economic growth and strengthen the country’s maritime and logistics sector.
