MPL Renews MoU with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts

A continued partnership to empower Maldivian youth through skills development and workplace training

Malé, 11 November 2025 - Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both institutions. The renewed agreement aims to enhance opportunities for youth to gain hands on learning, technical training, and workplace experience under the guidance of national level experts. This partnership supports the National Apprenticeship Program and will remain in effect for three years from the date of signing.

Key Responsibilities under the MoU:

Maldives Ports Limited

• Implement the National Apprenticeship Program in the agreed areas.

• Appoint and share details of a focal point for program implementation with the Ministry.

• Provide a minimum of 800 hours of workplace training in accordance with national standards set by MNSDA.

• Offer a monthly allowance of MVR 5,000 as per company policy.

• Conduct interviews and select participants for the apprenticeship program.


Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information, and Arts

• Promote the National Apprenticeship Program and share details with interested youth.

• Monitor the progress and quality of training programs.

• Identify and fund suitable training institutes.

• Award successful participants in a National Certificate Level 3 upon completion of both theoretical and practical training.


Under the previous MoU, MPL successfully conducted 11 batches of the National Apprenticeship Program in close cooperation with the Ministry. The Ministry’s support was instrumental in facilitating theory classes and awarding Level 3 certificates to apprentices.

With the renewal of this agreement, MPL looks forward to continuing this productive partnership to develop a skilled and capable workforce, contributing to the nation’s socio-economic growth.
