Training enhances operational readiness and strengthens security compliance across ports

Malé, 19 October 2025 - The Certificate Level 1 in Port Security Training, conducted by the MNDF Coast Guard Training School, has officially concluded after an intensive one-month program held at Girifushi.

A total of 30 security personnel from Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), Hithadhoo Port Limited (HPL), and Kulhudhuffushi Port Limited (KPL) successfully completed the training. Certificates were awarded on October 19, 2025, during a special ceremony at Bandaarakoshi, graced by MPL’s CEO, DCP (Retd.) Mohamed Rishwan.

The training was designed to strengthen port security capacity and ensure full compliance with the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Through a blend of theoretical and practical modules, participants were equipped with essential knowledge in port facility protection, emergency response, and access control management.

Key outcomes of the training include improved threat detection capabilities, enhanced operational readiness, and better coordination between port security units and external agencies such as the Coast Guard and Police. The program also emphasized workplace ethics, safety awareness, effective communication and critical elements in maintaining a secure and efficiently managed port environment.

The MNDF Coast Guard Training School’s curriculum integrated hands-on drills, including emergency response exercises, with comprehensive theoretical instruction on ISPS Code compliance, maritime safety, and health and safety standards.

MPL remains committed to advancing port security standards in collaboration with key national institutions and continues to prioritize the protection of vital maritime infrastructure across the Maldives.
