MPL Begins Operation of New Fire Extinguisher Refill Facility
Facility to provide refilling, inspection, and safe disposal services operated under international safety measures.
Malé, 26 October 2025 - Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially launched its Fire Extinguisher Refill Center, a new initiative under the company’s Health and Safety Department aimed at improving fire safety standards and emergency preparedness across all MPL facilities.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Health and Safety Building, attended by MPL CEO, DCP (Retd.) Mohamed Rishwan, along with members of the senior management.
The new center provides a wide range of essential services, including fire extinguisher refilling, hydrostatic pressure testing, and leakage inspections. Refilling operations are carried out using Dry Chemical Powder (DCP), Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), foam, and water, depending on the type of extinguisher.
In addition to refilling, the facility also offers bottle coloring, labeling, tagging, and safety pin attachment, ensuring that all extinguishers meet quality and safety compliance standards. Expired or damaged extinguishers will be safely dismantled and disposed of in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
Furthermore, the center is equipped to conduct refilling and pressure testing for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) cylinders, used by safety and emergency response teams.
MPL will handle the operation of this center in accordance with international safety measures, ensuring the highest level of quality, reliability, and compliance across all fire safety operations.
